multiplier onions

I tried the "Search" for these, but nothing came up. This is my first visit, so hope this subject hasn't been discussed recently.

I like these small onions for my needs, but having a problem trying to keep some for next years planting and harvest. They seem to dry up before planting time. I tried to leave some in the ground, hoping they would survive, but our hot summer months are too much for them. Harvesting and keeping them inside, didn't work either.

Any suggestions?

Bejay, I don't do multiplier onions but do shallots and garlic. I see that you are from the south, zone9/10. I have no problem holding my early- to mid-summer harvested shallots and garlic for fall planting and I am sticking my neck out here guessing what will work for multiplier onions. Two things seem to affect alliums in storage - temperature and humidity. Try keeping your reserved sets NOT in your regular fridge but in a place that is DRY (low humidity) and COOL (40-50Â°) if you can. That is how I keep my replanting stock and have no problems. Hope this might work for you!
