I know last year there was bloat nematode going on in NY. I ordered some from the Garlic Store again this year, they assured me they do not have suppliers from the east, but they couldn't tell me where my garlic came from.

Check on Ebay. there are some suppliers there, some small organic farms.

Lots of people on this forum sell alliums for fall planting.

I know it is not recommended but I purchased some beautiful Italian Purple from Wal**Mart back in July and it was soo soo good I went back and purchased some for planting. Just put it in - will report back in May/June 2012 with results and photos. Also try your local extension agent - he/she may know of a local farmer with garlic to sell.

Thanks To All! I found some from a local grower!

They told me at my local Feed & Seed that they usually get onions from Texas, but there aren't any/many this year due to the drought. I am so glad I started some from seed!

i'm having trouble finding bulk garlic (15# or so) as well...

dancinglemons, could be a problem with store bought Allium.
That is no guarantee you will have a problem.
I used white potatoes,beans,peas,onions,garlic from the store as my father did. I never had a problem.
biscgolf, I now get my garlic from wegrowgarlic & they will sale you by the pound.
