I'm not being a smartass here but I have a site for you to go look at in your attempt to figure this out. first of all you have a soft neck of some kind since no scapes grew. pure white with a streak of purple...that could be so many. Is it an artichoke ???

I think after looking at this site you will still be wondering what this is..there are so many bulbs that look pretty much the same. I recently purchased some Estonian Red, native to Denmark and some Brown tempest. The look almost exactly identical with just a bit of color difference on the clove skin.

You may never really know what you have.

As for the original poster's dilemma, that sounds like a bit of a puzzle. I can't recall that I've heard of a hardneck garlic variety that doesn't produce a scape.

As long as it's tasty, knowing the variety isn't really crucial, is it? ;-)

You're right. I like the garlic, it grows well in my location and it's not crucial that I know the variety. I'm just happy with what I have!
