Shallots starting to go soft, can I plant now?

I was guessing I should wait till Oct to plant the shallots when I plant the garlic, but it feels like it is starting to go soft. I might need to take it in the house, in the spare room, it's been so hot on the patio. Do I go ahead and plant now?

Also, the inside of the Walking onions I have, it's turning dark, like it is starting to rot. I pulled those, and hung those up, tied with yarn, and they are hanging on the patio too. I guess it's too hot or has been too hot out there. And, do I cut those off, say, to be 2" tall? Should I go ahead and plant them now?

Last question, I have been looking for those old fashion multiplying onions. They don't bulb at the end, they stay slim, the kind to eat at dinner whole. Had them years and years ago, and can't seem to find them now.

Thanks for your answers!

Kathy
