advice on growing garlic in containers-in Hawaii

Hello. I have been intrigued by the idea of growing garlic in Hawaii...near the coastline. I did a couple of searches and came up with the idea of trying some creole garlic. By the time I had got up the nerve to order some and "make the commitment", the company had only assortments left. I recieved them today. Now here's the thing: I want to grow these in pots. I would like to move them around my yard, if necessary, until I find a spot that is just right for them. I understand that different garlic have different size requirements. These are the garlic:

Chet's Italian Red

Red Toch

Rose du Latroc

Inchelium Red

Polish White

Creole Red

Now, I've read on a thread that each clove should be planted with 4 inches of space all around and 6 inches depth, at least (the standard 3 gallon black pot?). I was wondering if any one could help me confirm this--and if that was applicable to all the listed garlic--and finally, if anyone has any (better) advice regarding this --yes--bizzare attempt to raise potted garlic.

Thanks so much in advance,

Lee
