warily admitting to my new status on this forum (and deeply amused by Soilent's ranting - I indulge massively myself), I jumped onto (into?) this thread hoping for some fantastical new veggie (not so bizarre considering the solanum hybrids currently abounding). Imagine my disappointment (as an ignorant Brit) to discover that potato onions are merely SHALLOTS under another name. Bah!

I have a number of Yellow Potato Onions as well as Kelly's Green Mountain variety that I would be happy to share. I also have bulbils from Walking Onions. Please contact me through my page.

OTOH the so called Dutch yellow shallots probably are potato onions and should not be called shallots in the first place. The whole group is closely related, but you will generally find the potato onions, often just generically called multipliers to be hardier than French red shallots and keep much better. Of course the gray shallots are in a separate species all to themselves, and are not to be mixed in with any of the other potato or mulitplier onions.

For a source, you can also try Jungs from Randolph WI or a website called Heirloom Onions down in Alabama. They claim to ship through November out of Alabama and looks like they still have stock. Jungs is probably not shipping any more as late as it is.

Heirloom Onions has a pretty decent selection, all told, but they are often out of stock on a number of items; so you have to watch to be able to order when they have what you want.

I got yellow multiplier onions from Territorial Seed a few weeks ago.
