Good enough to plant?

Hi,

This is my first year growing garlic. I ordered some Red Toch and Ajo Rojo online. The Red Toch looks good and fresh, but the Ajo Rojo looks old. The skin(under the wrapper) is dull and darker, and while not flimsy, is not as hard and vibrant as the fresher looking Red Toch. Will these cloves still produce plants if planted? Also, will the really small cloves produce plants? I'm really looking forward to garlic next Spring!

Thanks,

Pete

I would go ahead and plant it, may just be the difference between varieties. In my experience there's a lot of life in those little cloves!

Yes, really small cloves will yield small heads.

The garlic cloves were planted. I had extras, so I picked the best and kept the rest for eating(I smelled quite good yesterday). I planted around 180 cloves so I'll have plenty to plant next year and plenty to share.
