Allium caeruleum bulbs

pizzuti

I recently planted some Allium caeruleum bulbs ordered this year - the bulbs were TINY!

I thought these plants are supposed to be roughly half the size and 2/3 of the height of Purple Sensation Alliums; I was expecting a bulb maybe the size of a grape hyacinth's bulb.

But the bulbs were smaller than crocus bulbs! I've never such small bulbs before - each was about the size of a pinto bean.

My understanding is that unlike most flower bulbs, these actually leaf out and then go dormant again before they bloom, so the plants will actually increase in size before flowering so bulb size could be misleading.

Still, it seems like these also might be immature plants.

I planted them in clumps of 5 under the expectation that they will increase. How quickly do they multiply and what should I expect?
