Will shriveled garlic grow?

I'm getting my garlic cloves in the ground as fast as I can, but I've noticed that some of the cloves have shriveled. They're not as firm and juicy as they were when they started out. Will they still grow okay? Or am I wasting my time putting them in the ground?

As long as they are just a little shriveled and not to the point of being hard, you should be ok. For some reason my German Browns do that every year - I just plant them like normal and I'll usually lose only one or two out of 30.

Thanks for the response. I've gone ahead and planted them, except for a couple that looked too far gone. I'm glad to know that I can probably expect something from them.

I have plenty of garlic to plant. If I lose one or two, no big deal.

I just hate losing them to the squirrels.
