garlic harvest question

i pulled out a bunch of my garlic today. i had a broken foot for the majority of gardening season, so things went terribly neglected. the garlic had been out there so long that the garlic formed complete heads and the stalks died back, and then the heads started to separate and each clove began to send up shoots. so now i have all these single cloves, held loosely together by roots and dirt, unprotected by the outer paper that usually keeps garlic from rotting. question then, is can i preserve this? will it rot or wither and dry if i let it sit in my garlic pot or the crisper drawer?

how does it taste?

i do know that if you leave the bulbs in too long (like a week or two (!) not all season but i see the reason this happened) then the bulb will burst the paper and this reduces storage ability. if it tastes ok then how much do you have? 10 bulbs, 50, 200, 500? if you have just a dozen or 2 then eat them but if you have lots perhaps you should freeze it. it will not thaw to it's original condition but you can mash it and use it in soup, stew, sauce etc.
