Observations made when peeling cloves.

| something I would like to ask my fellow garlic aficionados. When peeling carefully a garlic clove I often find, usually not very far from the basal plate, a bit of blackish hue on the clove flesh. It is only minor, not tenacious and is easily wiped off with a bit of paper tissue. It is certainly not dirt from the garden soil, because it is situated in a zone which is normaly well sealed off by the clove peel. My impression is that of a kind of (benign?) mould. It's certainly not the nasty greenish-blue penicillium and the clove tissue is perfectly healthy. What could it be? |

| My guess is mold.As the storage time increases if mold, then it will increase in size.Examine it carefully under a hand lens or microscope.Perhaps you should dry it some more.LOL |
