Garlic sprouting - is this OK?

Posted by vtandpafamily 6 (My Page) on

We live in southcentral PA and we are experiencing an extrememly mild winter (today it is 50 degrees). Our garlice is starting to sprout! We know that some sprouting is common, but should we do anything to inhibit more growth? We have only mulched part of the garlic, primarily due to lack of time and lots of traveling. Any input would be appreciated.

I live in central Indiana, and am having the same problem. I had about 4" of mulch down, and its growing through all of that. I'll add more mulch. But I was wondering....if the tops get frozen, do they die, or would they put out more tops eventually? Thanks.
