Garlic planting

This past week I have planted some hardnecked garlic that Martin sent me - his Old Heirloom, Northern Giant, and Brown Temptest. This is the first time I've planted hardneck varities and I'm collecting some scape recipes. :-) Most of these I planted at our farm in Tennessee, but a few I planted at my Mom's house in Alabama. I'm going to be interested to see if they perform differently. She's in 7a and the farm is in 6b. And both are very different from Martin's location.

I'm also hoping to get some of the Blount County Alabama garlic soon and will plant it at the farm.

Likely not of concern to you, Old Heirloom does not like to be grown or stored at temps from high 90s into the 100s. They cook in the ground and storage is very short.

Not likely to get those kind of temps before July. Thanks for the info, though. I like to keep experimenting.

We had massive amounts of rain last night and this morning (31 Dec), but here are a couple of pics I made of the garlics this afternoon.

Old Heirloom (and some others Martin sent me - Northern Giant and another whose name escapes me at the moment.)

And this is the Blount County Garlic.

RE: Garlic planting

This is the inchillieum red that I planted back in November in a bed that is about 4'x8'.

The pic was made late in the evening with a flash, but the garlic appears to be growing well. It's planted where I used to grow strawberries, hence the little tower in the bed.
