Sempervivum lovers in Canada

Are there any other semp lovers in Canada?

I live in Zone 2b here in Manitoba, Canada, on an acreage and would love to find others here in Canada who grow semps. Maybe do an exchange in the future???

I have 70 plus named varieties with another 70 or so on order for this spring.

Anyone else in Canada have a semp collection? How many are in your collection? Which ones?

WOW! That's a lot! I have many too, but wouldn't know their names and only two varieties. I'd be happy to share, but with 70 varieties you probably already have the ones I've got. LOL!

I've blogged them some from my rock garden here:

    valleyrimgirl,

I live in NY state, zone 5b. I have a few sedums and Hens and Chicks (green and reddish), but have no larger sempervivums. Which larger ones survive reliably in my zone, and which nursery sells those in the US?
    Thanks!

    Bernd,

I have not bought semps from any nursery in the US but Squaw Mountains in Oregon is one of the sites I have in my favorites as they have quite the selection of sempervivums. There is a picture of the semp as well as a description of the coloring and its size. Large semps they classify as getting to 2.5" in diameter or more.

Jack from Cavendish Perennials in Ontario would be also living in a zone 5ish just like you are. So, any semps he can grow you should be able to also. If you go to his web site...

    http://www3.sympatico.ca/semps/index.html

in his catalogue you can get a description of the semp and its size also.

Then go to the Squaw Mountain site for pictures or to this Yahoo group site...

I have now purchased about 150 different kinds from Cavendish Perennials in the past years with another 50 varieties coming again this spring. All the semps I have gotten from Jack have been fully winterhardy here in my Canadian zone 2b yard.

Let us know which ones you choose and where you ordered them from.
