Celmisia spectabilis

Has anyone had experience of growing this New Zealand alpine? I came across the variety called 'Eggleston Silver' when I visited Eggleston (County Durham, UK) itself but I understand that the plant is rather fussy about drainage and in the UK many people have trouble keeping it alive. At Eggleston it seems to thrive producing wonderful white daisy-like flowers. Can anyone recomment any other varieties?

Celmisia semicordata is (I quote) the easiest celmisia to grow, ..is more tolerant than most of heat and dry conditions but likes ample summer moisture. Zones 7-9.

Large rosettes, silvery leaves, white flowers. One of the largest growing. From low to medium altitudes in the South Island.

Moist, well-drained, gritty, acid soil - and an umbrella! They look pretty grumpy after a wet summer!
