 o
pile of rocks

I have a pile of rocks roughly 12' X 4'on the side of the yard. I was thinking of making a rock garden there. Could I just throw some dirt on top and more or less work it in or do something else? Also what type of plants would work well there? I live in Southcentral Alaska. I would like something fairly easy to grow and easy to start. Thanks.

Zone 3 gets pretty cold!Work in the soil on your pile, and do spot plantings after the soil has settled a bit.I would add finely crushed gravel and sand to the Planting mix you use. Please Check out the Denver Botanical Gardens for listings of plants that may do well in your zone.
