Oh my! Look! A bloom on my sempervivum...

Hi everybody!

{{gwi:371529}}

My grandmother recently gave me small handful of sempervivum from her big pot. I planted it and not even two weeks later there is a bloom forming. I was so excited to see this! Its really small, but beautiful nonetheless.

I am concerned though, because I think I heard once that hen&chicks die after blooming. Please tell me this is not the case here?

Thanks

Kim

    The sempervivum with the flowers will die after setting seed, the others with just chicks will live and hopefully give you many more. Of course, each chick will grow into an adult plant and have chicks of it's own.

    Wow! :) Flowers look just like mine not long ago. I replied to your post in my thread with a link to some more updated pictures.

    Yes, the hen will die after it flowers but you should be able to get seeds after the flowers die off. The chicks will live on and become hens of their owns so you have no worries about losing all your sempervivums all at once.

    Enjoy what's to come. :)
