Columbines no longer flowering?

I recently moved to a house with an established rock garden. There are lots of Columbines, the pink/white variety as well as some purples. I'm new to rock gardening and to these plants, but I'm wondering why they've stopped flowering. Should I have deadheaded them? I am asking because my mother's columbines are still flowering beautifully and she's only a few miles away with similar conditions. Also my plants are suffering badly from that pest that makes the squiggly lines on the leaves (the name escapes me). Should I be concerned about that?

Columbines are a springtime flower. They bloom once a year and that's it. They are finished here in z4 Iowa, so your's are behaving normally. Dead-heading wouldn't have mattered. The squiggly lines in the leaves are from leaf miners, I believe. They don't seem to cause any harm.

Don't worry...they will return (and likely multiply) next spring!
