Help with definitions needed . . . .

I want to plant some hens&chicks and sedum in a small rock garden but I was confused on what soil to use.

I did a search on this forum and got a few good recipes but I'm confused on what some of these soils are:

Loam - Can I just use Miracle grow garden soil?

grit - ?

Coarse sand - the only sand I can find in pavers sand.

A good answer for "loam":

very often, pavers sand is that very fine white sand - you don't want that.

Play sand or builder's sand (used to mix with cement) is what you want. Find them at a home building center, or if you want yards of it, a landscape supply place.
