Growing Allium Akaka

Anybody having experience with growing Allium Akaka whitout using a bulb frame ?

I'm planning to grow them in a bed with gravel, stones etc to ensure a good drainage and high temperature. The case is that they are not hardy in my area, so I dont know if I will succeed.
