Fragaria norsca

candleberry

I was doing a search for alpine strawberries and came upon a post that mentioned Fragaria norsca a native alpine strawberry that gives off runners.

Question- do these strawberries have bright pink flowers?

Google search did not come up with any pictures or info.

The ones I have are very pretty but becoming a big pain!

Is this what I have? Anyone have a picture?

Thanks

Jen

I have a variety called 'Pink Panda'. It has bright pink flowers and spreads rapidly with only an occasional berry.

Just a side note: if you live in Cranbrook, the native strawberry (usually called Fragaria vesca) of your part of British Columbia is a nice addition to a native garden. It is small-leaved and spreads moderately but is easy to pull out where not wanted. The leaves on the ones in our garden often turn a nice red starting this time of year. We have ours growing in full shade but it will produce a small, tasty fruit if grown in direct sunlight.
