suggestions for plants in my rock garden?

Hello
I just started a small rock garden, about 4'x 6'. It is located right next to the pool, on the north side of my house but it does get sun most of the day. I live in zone 9, in the central valley of Northern California. It does get very hot in the summer, over 100F.
I am overwhelmed by the choices at the local nursery. I'd like some colorful, easy to maintain plants that are not too messy (they are next to the pool).
Verbena is one plant I am considering.
Any other ideas that you may have would be so helpful. Also, any website of rock gardens with pictures of plants would be appreciated.

Campanula pulla
Euonymus ‘Microphyllus Albovariegatus’
Leontopodium alpinum
Phlox subulata 'Moerheimes'
Daboecia scotica 'William Buchanan'
Saponaria 'Bressingham Pink'
Tanacetum densum
