Josh, I don't have a 'Tosca', but I'm thinking 'Ruby Star' is very similar and may even be better, what do you think? Just look at that green star and how it radiates to the end of the lower petals, and those lower petals with the lighter veining, just breathtaking!!! I'll bet some people are ordering one right now after seeing your picture :-)

Josh, that's stunning - is it a cybister cross? It has some of the bloom shape for sure unless it's just the angle of the picture.

Alana, I'm not really sure what the parentage might be but I can assure you, it isn't the angle ;)

Did anyone else purchase this one besides Donna and I?

Darn! I wish I'd seen this picture before I ordered from Easy to Grow Bulbs last night! That flower is a stunner.

    Alana,
    Ruby Star parentage:
    H.papillio wild type x (H. vittatum "white" x H. cybister)

Tina, If I were you, regardless of a sale, I would most diffinitly purchase a Ruby Star from ETGB!! I was astounded with the beauty of mine last year..all the filiments with their stamen hang down and it looks like fairy legs with slippers in low light..amazing. This season mine has sent up 4 or 5 leaves and now is sending up it's first scape. I love the look when the bulb has leaves along with the bloom..This is from last year...

And if you do order a Ruby Star, you might as well order an Opal Star..different color and not as dramatic but, beautiful and different in it's own way...

Thanks Oleg! That's quite a nice parentage it has. I had suspected some cybister in there. It's quite stunning.

    Oleg,

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find the information about the parentage? Did you ask Saad-Assaf? They're very nice group :)

I for sure saw H. papilio.

Thanks Donna! Your photos are gorgeous. I put an email in to ETGB as soon as I saw the photos here- asking if they'd add a Ruby Star to my order. No response yet. If I don't get one this round, it will just have to be added to the list of wanted bulbs!

    Oleg,

So how'd you find out the parentage to 'Opal Star'?

  • oleg9grower

    Josh
I would answer in the style of Russian folk tale about a priest and a dog)): there, where about Ruby Star)).
But seriously, in the patent information, that's only link I can not remember. If I find - I'll write, OK?
