Forcing...Doing It Wrong?

Two years ago, I bought an amaryllis bulb, determined to learn how to make these beauties bloom in the winter. I had a nice bloom the first year and then put it down in the basement in the fall. Forgot about it, until I noticed a pale spike coming up last spring. Brought it up, great bloom. I continued to water it throughout the summer, and in the fall, once the leaves were droopy and the stalk was long gone, I cut it back and put it back down in the basement for the dormant period.

Two months later (two weeks ago), I brought it back up from the basement. No spike. I soaked the roots in warm water for a few hours and then carefully potted and watered the bulb. It's been sitting in a sunny window for almost 2 weeks and shows no sign of growth.

Am I doing something wrong, or does it take much longer for this to happen?
