Non Blooming Amaryllis

While we were in the States for a few months, rather than leaving them in a closet until my return in October, a friend took my potted amaryllises out, placed them in a sunny area and watered them. When I returned, she mentioned that she had cut the resulting growing leaves off so that I could force them when I returned. Please don't ask why she did this! I haven't a clue. I always spur them from dormancy so that they will bloom in the normal 6 to 8 weeks. Since the leaves were cut off, I had hoped that new ones would grow and, perhaps, I would get flowers. Unfortunately, after two months, the bulbs show no sign of new growth although they are healthy.
Question----where do I go from here. I am devastated!
