Party Animal and a few Friends

Hi,

Well my Party Animal is blooming and it's just gorgeous! There is one softball sized bulb and another baseball sized bulb and 2 smaller offsets. This year I have 3 scapes; the first with 4 flowers the second with 3 and the third remains to be seen. I have never had any luck getting Party Animal to set seedpods but I'll try again. Unfortunately I believe she is virused but not bad and continues to grow like a champ. I will continue to try to self her and try a few other crosses also but don't hold our much hope.

And Red Charm which is a smaller version of Cherry Nymph with thick corduroy like petals.

and Rio Negro with 9 flowers on a new bulb and they all tried to bloom simultaneously and it got so crowded that many of them couldn't but a few managed to open al the way.

and a second scape of Exotica

Lady Jane

and a second scape of Moon Scene which was prettier than the first

Party Animal is really pretty and I also like Rio Negro. That's 2 more for my next season wish list. You have a great collection going Donna. How long have you been collecting?

Party Animal isn't available in this country but of course Rio Negro is. I don't know whether or not you've ever seen Party Pooper (both Australian) which is very similar to Party Animal but with deeper colors. I always thought that these two might be sister seedlings and so every year I try to self both of these to see what other surprises might be lurking in their gene pool. Haven't been successful yet but when I am I'll share seed with anyone who wants any. I say this every year and every year no seeds. Maybe this year will be different!

I've been collecting only about 5 or 6 years, you know it started out with a Red Lion, Orange Sovereign, Apple Blossom and a few others and you know the rest of the story....

They're beautiful Donna, I love the star in the middle of exotica is it really defined in color or is it muted.

You reall have a full-blown party going on at your house, Donna with Party Animal in a starring role. It's nice to see that your Moon Scene improved vastly on the second scape. Mine is still sleeping.

Thanks for the great photos, Donna. My Rio Negro did the same thing, i.e. two scapes that bloomed nearly simultaneously. It is a beautiful variety, but I prefer those that bloom sequentially so I can enjoy them longer.
