I;m not Kahlua, who am I?

Title should be "I'm"...not "I;m"! ...but maybe THIS IS H. Kahlua!! At first search it didn't seem to match anything I saw for Kahlua, and I think RC has taken down their photo. Then I found a match on an EU cut flower site.

...after searching the internet, I spotted this on a cut flower business page. See the link. I think it's a match!

She's very pretty Kristi but, I'm not quite convinced it's Kahlua.

I love Kristi's, I love yours and I love mine!! Why such a varied selection for Kahlua this year? Each one is gorgeous and I've yet to see a picture of the true Kahlua as lovely as yours I hope we all get another chance next year!

    Hi Donna,

I am madly in love with Kristi's too!

No, I don't think that your 'Wild Child' is 'Octopussy.' However, I can't see if your flower has the vivid green heart. Do you have a photo showing the heart?

One clue 4 U. When 'Octopussy' was registered by Berbée Amarylliscultures in 2008, its color was specified as Royal Horticultural Society Red 44A.

I definitely need to invest in the RHS Colour Chart!

    Dear All,

Here is my latest ‘not Kahlua’ bulb surprise. The first photo was taken yesterday as
the flowers were just opening. The
second photo shows the flowers developing a more curvaceous shape today. The last bulb should flower in a month
    or so.

    Cheers,

    Blanca

    Beautiful mislabels everyone!!!

    Blanca,

To me your latest, very graceful and beautifully colored not-"Kahlua" looks the most like Octopussy so far, yours having the green eye that my "Wild Child" appears to lack. Isn't it strange that there were so many not-Kahluas that were slightly different but still all similar enough to have perhaps been from the same cross? I love them all and would be glad to have one of each as well as the original Kahlua!! Maybe next year....☺

I wish that I had ordered a dozen 'Kahlua' bulbs!

Here is another 'not Kahlua' whose true identity may be recognizable even though the flowers were produced by a tiny bulb.

    ID?

  • blancawing

The flowers of the 'not Kahlua' bulb (shown above) remind me of 'Jungle Star,' but my JS bulbs are large and robust. It is amazing that this tiny bulb produced four good-sized flowers.

Does anyone else see a similarity?

  • dondeldux z6b South Shore Massachusetts
    9 years ago

Yes! Gorgeous, both of them!! The markings look the same, just the shape is a bit different, your original is move curvaceous, as you say, probably due to coming from a smaller bulb. Lucky you...!!

Here'e the bloom that was tagge as H004. Everyone says they got a Kahlua. Not sure mine is Kahlua as the center is red/pink.

I like an occassional mystery, but this year has been full of them!!

    Happy Sunday Kristi!

For various reasons, these photos were
about to be consigned to the trash. Hopefully they will be helpful in confirming the ID.

Please remember that I am working with an
antiquated camera, and that lighting makes a big difference.

    Cheers,

    Blanca

    Yes.

Seems like you may have gotten the only one. Of course, the bulb that came out of the bag marked Kahlua, while it looks similar, isn't what you have. Even the current bulb, that was labeled H004 doesn't seem to be Kahlua either. My bulb is too pink, to my eye.

Guess we may not figure this out.

I have several 'H004' bulbs that are truly 'Kahlua' - please check your email in a few minutes. :-)

I guess I was asking, any part in particular...I knew what bloom!

Bulb has no roots and blooms are looking pretty sad this morning. Another scape is coming.

Here is RC's picture of Kahlua.

Kristi...I think that last pictured one of yours is a Kahlua.

I think it is too. In the sunlight the colors are a bit more intense. I like the pink!

I ordered two H004 from RC. What am I going to get? I ordered a Kahlua this year and the scape was so short and the bloom so distorted that I could not tell what I have.
