I let my new bulbs grow and bloom in the greenhouse window of my kitchen with gas range/oven. No ill effects have been observed. I also have forced gas central heating.

I've read that some gas stoves leak more ethylene than others depending on how efficient they are.

My mother actually got an orchid yesterday (some kind of oncidium I think) so I'll seen how it reacts to my growing conditions. It will be like a canary in a mine. It still has lots of buds that have yet to mature and bloom so I'll make sure to pay close attention. I might even put it in semi hydro too if I can figure out if the plant is putting out new roots or not.
