eek - frost threatens

This so far has been a very mild winter, and my in ground hippis already have bloom stalks up about 6 inches. Nearly a month early! And of course, there is a frost forecast for this weekend=( Any thoughts on protecting the emerging bloom spikes? The bulbs themselves will of course be fine, but don't want to miss a full season of blooms!

I'm thinking about making little piles of pine bark fines up over the bloom stalks to keep the frost off. I don't have enough frost cloth, and in any case, it is hard to secure down because it is likely to be windy too. It seems like trying to cover them with cloth would be more likely to break the stalks than just leaving them alone...

Any ideas?
