h. chico problem

Hi guys, god bless you! I have this h. chico and is not doing very good, when I pollinated the flowers for seeds, the seed pods were very not well formed, they were so small, but anyways, the leaves that started to grow are very pale and weak and once they begin to emerge over 1 cm they will start to wither become pale and die, but I noticed two shoots in the sections of the bulb, I noticed this because of the two big bumps, I mean seed pods weren't even forming well and now the leafs are dying! Could this be the narcissus bulb fly?

My new Chico set some really tiny seedpods too, I mean really small..but since this is my first Chico, this may be normal.. still not sure if there is anything inside..

As for the bumps on the side of your bulb, they would most likely NOT be NBF, they makes holes, not bumps (which I would think in your case might possibly be bulblets under the skin. The chances are good that you won't buy a bulb (not impossible of course) that has an NBF problem..this usually occurs after the bulb has been lounging outside in the summer sun for the season..the eggs (I believe) are laid in Mayish and then the larvae silently munches on the bulb for the summer..only at the end of summer do you notice that the leaves just don't look quite right..pull the bulb out of the pot for a look and voila!
They dying new leaves doesn't sound good though..my new bulb hasn't sent up any leaves..

Oh Donna...ugh!!

Phil, do you have any pests at all...fungus gnats, etc? I know that if I have anything lurking, that's when I have issues with new growth not doing well. This is usually in the kitchen where we have resident fruit flies from time to time (if I don't get the compost out fast enough), and the fungus gnats have been worse this year as we have had a lot of rain...

I have to say (luckily) that I have never had the misfortune of buying a bulb with NBF..all mine are home grown..

Sadly one was an exclusive that was only offered last year through RC :(

Well, now that you've told us from whence it came, tell us what it was.. and were you able to save it!! I hope so....sometimes these things are savable if you catch it in time..I caught an early one in my first Nymph and it had only gone in about 1/2 inch or so.. still recovering but alive...

It was NR-0016... it was a sad day when I realized the bulb was completely hollow.. :( There was nothing left to save.

Oh Josh, I'm soo sorry, I really am.. mine is doing beautifully though and when she blooms..I'll show you her pictures...Were you able to get a replacement?
