Hi,

I just posted this and forgot to put a subject so if this ends up twice, I'm sorry...

I just want to share my new bulb with you given to me by a new "Hippie Friend".. Isn't she beautiful?? Just look at those leaves! I hope I can do right by her and soon she will be growing a new leaf and some more roots..any suggestions or advice on what I should do to give her optimum care would be gratefully accepted!
Thanks again!!

Hi Donna,

Mine likes a shady/filtered light spot. You will love yours!

Cheers,

Looking good! I love that pot. I bought some similar types at the local IKEA store and wish I had purchased more! I keep my 'Mrs. Garfield' on the east side of my house where they get morning sun and afternoon shade. My clump blooms several times a year which I absolutely love. The bulbs on mine never attain a very large size, but the virtually evergreen foliage is just wonderful.

I'm sure your new baby will thrive for you, so keep us posted. Great pic, by the way!

Happy gardening,
Grant

Oh wow! I didn't know some amaryllis had a stripe through the leaf... Is this 'variegated' or?

Hi, I just entered 'Mrs Garfield' in the search box at the top of the page and there is a wealth of information pertaining to 'Mrs Garfield' etc. Several posts suggest that she need humidity..Grant ,or anyone else growing Mrs G in an arid climate do you go out of your way to provide humidity? Being winter, our house is quite dry and there is no room in a bathroom for her..I do want to give her what she needs to get her started correctly..perhaps I could move her to the window (just bright light) over the kitchen sink for a bit(?) more humidity?
Thanks,

Donna

By the way, when I first bought my very small Mandonii on EBay I just couldn't get her to grow..in fact she kept loosing leaves..I took her out of a sunny window and put her in the kitchen window and she has shot up 2 new leaves this winter..I am SO relieved!! I let her dry out completely and bottom water her as she does have roots..hopefully, I am doing thing correctly for her now and she will continue to prosper...

Fun posts! No, I don't do ANYTHING to provide extra humidity for her and she thrives. Our humidity is in the single digits for 9 months of the year (I love it) and even during our "humid" monsoon season it's dry compared to most places. Surprisingly, her foliage is some of the best among my Hipps, a nice surprise for a variegated plant.

The only issue she ever has for me is too much afternoon sun in summer, when the leaves can bleach a bit, but now that I've got the perfect spot for her, she looks great 365 days a year. Oh sure, now and then she drops a leaf or three, but she starts re-sprouting in just a couple of weeks, so let's call it looking good 345 days a year. :) Much success to you and her!
