Beautiful! I really like the contrasting green center. I'm surprised how thin the stalk of the scape is... in some respects, I think that adds to the beauty.

I'm sure you have discussed this mystery species with other specialists. Do you think that this is a variant of Hippeastrum cuzcoensis? There seem to be some similar features to photos I have seen of that species.

Jim,

It is similar in some respects with H. cuzcoensis but there are many differences morphologically. I'm working with a Bolivian botanist that works with Peruvian and Bolivian species and we're investigating what it could possibly be.

H. cuzcoense has a wider and longer star that reaches to at least half of the tepal length, it also seems that H. cuzcoense has non apparent bristles in the throat which my species has. Both have a globose shaped stigma.

It seems this plant is more closely related to H. machupijchensis and might be a variant without as pronounced spotting which can be seen from a photo in Herbertia 1984 written by Vargas.

I will let everyone know what happens, I have selfed this species, lets PRAY it sets seed!

I wish I would have taken a picture of it before it started fading, the tepals are more oblanceolate which adds a lot of character.

I do have a cuzcoense about to bloom, of course I will post pictures!
