Can you cross-pollinate Daylily and Hippeastrum?

Posted by haxuan Vietnam (My Page) on

I have attempted to cross daylily (yellow Hyperon) with Vittatum. I wanted to have some "yellow" hippis.

Have anyone of you done it before? Were you successful?

Many thanks for your advice.

Xuan

Hi Xuan,
Daylilies aren't part of the family of Amarillidaceae so chances are zero that this will work, sorry! Try other american Amarillidaceae for inter-genus-hybrids ...

Xuan,It is a very unlikely cross, since they are so distantly related. They are not Amaryllids.Hippeastrum are part of the Amaryllid family.
You would have better luck getting someone to cross two yellow Hippeastrum Varieties and letting you have some seed. I would help you,but I don't have any yellows, either.

Xuan,
The H. Evansiae bloom is a lovely yellow Hippeastrum. Maybe you can find that. If I get some seeds I would send you a few.

What bad news :-(

I have seen seed pods already formed on the daylilies that I pollinated. But, as you guys have confirmed, these pods may not well-formed.

Kristi, I'd appreciate it very much if you could share some seeds of whatever yellow you have. Thank you very much in advance.

Xuan
