Learning about Hippeastrums

Echo_of_your_past

For the past 11 years I have had Hippeastrum Johnsonii growing on the south side of my house. Just recently, I have learned that their are so many different varieties and hybrids and I have recently purchased about 20 different hybrids.

This year I am going to try to collect and grow my Johnsonii seeds. Although, I am not 100% certain that they have been pollinated correctly. One of the lemon lime bulbs that I purchased has a nice seed pod on it and I will attempt to collect the seeds on it as well. All of my hippeastrums are outside now, but not being certain that they are going to be as hardy as the johnsonii, I am going to bring the bulbs in for the winter. I did get a nice surprise when one of the four Aphrodites that I purchased turned out to be a Fairy Tale.

I am looking forward to meeting all of ya'll and I am really enjoying reading your posts about hippeastrums.

Thank you,

Sandra :)
