Miscellanous Hippeastrums 2nd set of 2011

haweha

I have several Knight Star Lilies still, concealing in the ambuscade that I put these bulbs to reposal not before January for good (strategical) reason: These were smaller bulbs, that had rather late developed their first "semisheating leaf" that this indicated the initiation of the first scape.

H.cybister "Chico" x "Pink Floyd"

Hans, beautiful hybrid :) I love the outward curved sepals, it gives it a very attractive look! I think this is what hybrid Hippeastrum are about *in my opinon*, a very whimsical plant that is almost unimaginable!

Is there any fragrance following 'Pink Floyd'?

    Thank you!
And, sorry; no fragrance. I dd not even speculate about fragrance in this case, since "Pink Floyd" was not fragrant... errrh, at least not for ME.

    Hans,

I've yet to bloom 'Pink Floyd' as it wasn't distributed last season :( I do however have several small bulbs. I was only speculating on fragrance considering I've never smelled myself :(

I do think that your hybrids are incredible, have you spoke with any of the lead growers or thought about registering?

    Thank you all!
Joshy, beauty does not automatically imply commercial exploitability.

    Hans,

Of course it doesn't but beauty is definitely a component, it's a starting point!

I pollinated the three flowers, with "Striped Panther" - but they did not "take".

Now, the next is one commercial hybrid that I have you guess its identity before I shall reveal it. It is a miniature, and I feel lukky that this very tiny bulb reblooms for the first time in my hut...

    ...over
LOL! Well observed. Technically speaking you are correct. Fact is, that there does not exist a commercialized hybrid with such an uncommon name though...YET.

So, that I am inclined to be helpful, on this occasion, I provide you with the hint "a Sonatini, from South Africa"

    Amico

    Oui Madame!
    Thank you for your input.
Do you know by any chance, how many florets per scape "Amico" can produce? Veronica says "usually 4" but I would not mind MORE. I heared that "Amputo" does not produce seeds, but I dusted with her majesty, "PapDon2" even though.

And, as regards HER - the next specimen to be shown will be a seedling from
    "Melusine"(the true one) x "PapDon2"
It already reveals 4 striped buds, of similar size ( = will open almost at the sime time) and I particularly appreciate this property, and I am thrilled.

    1st scape - Five 3 1/2" flowers on 7 " scape.
    2nd scape - Five flowers
    3rd scape - Five flowers

Pollinated with tet, diploid and triploid.
    All failed.

    "Melusine" x "PapDon2"
Note: "Melusine" = The real one
    This looks promising:

Btw: The round containers contain my very first Gladiolas 7 each of "Mon Amour" and of "Priscilla"
I want to [pro]create my own Gladiolas...

    "PapMinPic1" = H.papilio x ( "Minerva" x "Picotee")

The little dots should be due to "Picotee"

    Sir Hans,

Fully opened your striped picoted white flower is really stunning..I'd buy one if I could..but my heart still remains faithful to your PapDon2...

Thanks for sharing your success with us...

Well observed! The MATURED flowers, of many Hippeastrums even, create the impression of the "seamless" and "completely rounded" CALIX or PLATE and I am inclined to baptize this seedling Amarena BALLS (again, and in remembrance of a sibling of Minerva x Picotee respectively) that had been nicely veined on white, rounded segments) but lacked the red edge DESPITE parentage of "Picotee".

I shall definitely try to obtain seeds of "PapMinPic through self pollination.
On ther other hand, the star-shaped Melusine x PapDon2 seedlings (a second is comming soon and reveals itself in the background respectively *g*) are in my opinion dead end hybrids, because their beauty is very "formal". Their color is very good though, rather blueish.

I crosspollinated them anyways / even though.
I might receive seedlings that grow in a higher %age as fast as the parents, and the flowers might become ebven more blueish.

    Decent performance of "PapDonSalm".
