Matterhorn x Gervase 2010. Could do better.

My rather unenthusiastic report card comment suggests that this cross is really a missed opportunity. Imagine all the exciting possibilities of a hybrid between a pure white Matterhorn and the elegant blushing pink veined Gervase. What actually emerged was a rather ordinary generic red. It is a nice enough flower but unremarkable, and something of an anti-climax after years of watching and waiting and anticipating the kind of mid-way variety that might be produced.

Oh no, no, no, no you can't say that! It's lovely! And it's something between orange and red! Very nice indeed. Each hippeastrum is a small wonder to behold.

While it's a lovely bloom, that is not what I would have expected from this cross! Do you have another sibling that will be blooming?

It's amazing isn't it how some of the genes from way back get pulled forward to give a totally unexpected flower?

Makes you wonder where the orange came from. Pretty none the less but, I agree totally unexpected. Well at least it's a lovely shaped flower and it will be interesting to see what it's siblings look like.
