Carol, No leaves yet and there is another scape that is fully up and will open in a week or so..but I've had seed pods set on bulbs with no leaves before.. so what do you think..thanks..

Many Hippeastrum set seeds without leaves.

Donna, I would just let it run it's course, don't remove it from the plant! Let it dry and hope that when it cracks there is a viable seed or two. It is possible that there is some life in there, I've had the same thing happen with some seeds that germinated readily!

Good luck, I've had no luck with 'Gervase' but I can't even being to imagine the progeny :)

Thanks Josh, Gervase certainly is a unique flower isn't it. I wonder if there are any others that do that variant color thing consistently..but I do prefer it mostly pink with a few red streaks..If you look at White Flower Farm's catalogue, and look at the picture of Purple Rain, it almost looks like it could be a sister seedling without the streaking..maybe next year I'll try one..although the shape of the flower seems to be different. I didn't mean to imply that it couldn't set seeds without leaves. However, if it had leaves, they could have provided additional clues as to what is going on with the bulb.

Any time anything looks weak/yellow on amaryllis, if not due to disease/pest, it is most likely a result of too much water and/or too little sun. I can usually decrease the water and/or increase the light and fix it.

Thanks, Carol..this particular plant is in a South facing window..not much water and the first scape bloomed just fine..the second is thinking about opening. Will post pictures of the finished product..thanks for your input..

Donna, I hope you get a few good seeds out of it. I wasn't able to get any pods to keep on Gervase either fwiw. Too bad though.
