Voodoo lily is a common name associated with this plant as well as members of Sauromatum and Typhonium. They are all members of the aroids, scientifically it is Amorphophallus Konjac. Amorphophallus are my main focus with Hippeastrum in a close second.

I have one that was given to me over 2 yrs ago, I was told it would smell like rotten eggs. I never planted it in my garden, it sits in a pot. What I cannot get over, is that it did not freeze. I lost plants that I had covered, and this plant survived? It is a hardy plant. Barbra

There are some hardy species in the many, many Aroids! Some don't smell nearly as bad! Did you know that Calla Lillies are an aroid? They don't smell so bad :)

Amorphophallus Konjac is the hardiest of all the Amorphs. It is a trooper and I love it. It really does stink though when it blooms, but they inflorescence is so worth it. Zach since you mentioned it im going to make my plug here, lol. The International Aroid Society is the leading organization devoted to the study and preservation of aroids. Personally I am a current board member and I highly recommend a moment to check out their website at aroid.org if these things interest you. You wont believe how many plants you currently grow or know of that are aroids. Peace Lilys, Chinese Evergreens, Calla lilys, caladiums and ZZ plant are all aroids. Check it out if you are so inclined.
