I made this cross in 2010 and this is its maiden bloom. Thanks for looking.

The bloom doesn't look its best because I was late in coming :)

    Hello Xuan,

All my Apple Blossoms are fragrant and some of my vittatum hybrids are fragrant too. Given its parentage, that particular cross could have a lovely fragrance in addition to its beautiful shape and coloration. I'm curious if that trait was passed on to your seedling. Have you detected any fragrance?

    Congratulations!

    Xuan,

Very Nice! You have wonderful qualities from both parents.

    Xuan,

That's a very pretty flower and I see it has a red throat. My vittatum has a red throat and is very fragrant.

As Blanca states with two fragrant parents have you given it the sniff test?

Xuan,H.Vittattum is one of the species which has some clones of other than diploid chromosome count. If you have a teraploid of that, you probably have a fertile tetraploid seedling. If it is diploid the chances are great that it is a triploid and mostly infertile.

Del...I'm so dumb about all those "TET" and "DIP" :(

I have asked before but was told...just play with the blooms...and so I did :)

Many of my attempts to cross failed, except for a very few!

    Xuan,

I'm pretty dumb about that too but even if I think I know what I should and shouldn't cross, I try everything anyway..I have lots of failures but, any success is worth the effort.

Did you sniff your vittatum x Apple Blossom cross yet?

No, Donna. The bloom faded before I got the message; also we have returned to our city home already.

I'll definitely make note and will sniff...next time. I'll watch closely if the bulb send up a new stalk, which I hope it will.
