I normally use Tweezers and put them afterwards in the dishwasher. That rinsing stuff is so hard, i think no pollen survives that alife. My other suggestion is the cotton- sticks for ear- cleaning single use. :-)

That was my drinking straw condom...I use a Q-tip for dabbing....

I just take the pollen pad off of the donating plant with tweezers then use that to dab. I just throw it away when done. No contamination.

Surgical tweezers. Cleaned off on the cuff of my Wranglers between plants.

I've never pollinated or cross pollinated my amaryllis. I only have 2 kind. the Minerva and some red one that I don't even know the name of.

Do you pollinate just to get new varieties? Please explain so I will know if it is something I would like to try. I would love to start growing other colors also. Thanks

I use only 1st day pollen. Pull out a stamen and use the pollen sac directly.

Arif, that is too funny. I saw one of those on MY amaryllis yesterday... messing up all my crosses.

I either pull off the whole stamen and dab it on or use my fingers. The bees do an awful lot of pollinating in my yard too.
The ones in the yard are starting to bloom like crazy, my next day off I'm going to drive around the mainland and drool over the ones blooming in peoples yards by the hundreds.

Arif, thank you for showing! I observe the same in Germany. the slim hover flies, that they are cosmopolitans as obvious LOL, would eventually deplete some anthers even entirely, from their nutritious male GAMETES.
