Virus Or Stressed?

I received a huge Charisma mail order bulb a few days ago (replacement for a rotten bulb)and i think it may be infected.The bulb started sprouting in the box and was very pale.I potted the bulb and its starting to show some color but its also showing some spots on the stem and bulb. What are the differences between a stressed bulb compared to a virused bulb?

Actually, I'm not sure..I personally haven't had a virused bulb look that bad, and not like that, but not to say that is isn't.. It is most definitly very sick, but it could be stagonospora curtisii..I see you have used Captan, was there rot on the bulb? Without seeing the bulb itself, maybe the rot went deep into the bulb. I'd get it far away from my other hippies (I see one in the background) in fact I don't think I'd have any reservations about tossing that one. Take plenty of pictures and see if you can get a replacement or your money back.
Sorry I couldn't be more help, I'm sure someone else will have more possitive ideas about what's wrong...

I just looked at your picture more closely and now that I realize it is a Charisma, the red bud makes sense.
Those white spots on the bud, is that Captan too (?)..I think I can see white on both buds, that is not normal..I guess I'll stick to my original thoughts...I'd still move it away from the rest of your hippies, maybe when the leaves emerge (but on Charisma they don't usually emerge until it is through blooming) it will tell you more about it's health..Good Luck!

The captan is just a precaution.The bulb itself looked pretty healthy..the stem and bud not so much.The white spots on the bud are part of the discoloration not captan.I did move Charisma away from my other hippies just incase.I guess ill just have to wait like you said till it blooms. Its a shame if it is a virus its a nice sized bulb and i was really looking forward to having a Charisma or Temptation:(

This is the bulb companys second attempt at sending me a healthy bulb..im so disappointed i might not even contact them.Thanks for your help donna i appreciate the response:)

It looks more like S,C,,but I've seen cold damage look like that. It will take more time to know. I would keep it isolated,until I knew for sure.
