Recovery from severe rot

Hi All,
I thought I would share a success story in recovery from rather deep rot. This is a Bogota bulb I purchased online. The vendor was kind enough to send a replacement, but I could not give up on this poor thing. I removed all the rot, leaving little more than half the bulb, and dusted it with Captan. After 5 weeks it was well healed and sent up a scape from the undamaged half.

And here is the same bulb after 5 weeks. That was 2 months ago, and it is quite happy today.

Good job taking care of it! Very nice flower too. I'm curious since all 3 Bogota I bought online were severely rotten due to bad packaging method (the seller had compensated me with other bulbs), I had to carve out and remove more than half of the basal plates for all of them. There is one that the basal plate is no more, completely rotten, red and mushy but the bulb is still green and seems like it has some life left. So can a bulb with no basal plate be saved or can it regenerate the basal plate in any way?

I guess this shows just how tough these bulbs can be! I wouldn't be surprised if you get bulblets around the basal plate too! -Tina
