If it's only the size of a cherry tomato it is no where near ripe, these pods get really large.. You can let it mature, don't break it open, see if it keeps growing, sometimes my Hippeastrum can do this.

I'm not sure if it can but I've had Hippeastrum seed pods do this!

In my room that I keep all of my plants I accidentally knocked one of the seedpods off, not thinking about it I layed it next to the plant. Next time I looked at it, it was the size of a golf ball! Previously it had been the size of a grape.

Eventually the seed ripened! This also happened with a 'Limona' seedpod except for I left it outside, of course in a cool spot in the shade! It ripened! THO, this was spring and we had a really wet spring!

If you can, put it in some water like you would a cut flower, maybe this will give you better chances ;)
