It's nearly time to start thinking about letting bulbs go dormant. I would not overwinter them in peatmoss, as that holds moisture which then might lead to rot and mold. Your best bet would of been to stop watering them and let the leaves die back then pull up the bulbs and store them in dry paper sacks in a cool dark closet.

Guess it was good practice for next spring. If you really don't want them...there would be lots of takers on this list for the cost of postage.

Well, you could always do what I did last year with too many seedlings that I had planted directly in the ground. I didn't know what to do with them either and I thought they were too small to put through a dormancy so "I" lifted them with as much soil as possible and stuffed them in these long pots. They went in the cellar for the winter but I have several grow lights but these weren't exactly under the grow lights so they didn't actually advance too much during the winter but they did OK being watered about once a month. Then this spring when the pots went back outside they took off! I'll just bring them in again this year just like last and I'm hoping I'll get some flowers next year to see if they are keepable or not...

Just a suggestion and I know it's some expense and a lot of work but I guess it just depends on just how fond of your bulbs you are!

Super idea Donna. I have long planters like that and they aren't used for anything in the winter. I really do want to see what the flowers turn out to be. I have lots of grandchildren (18) to give the bulbs to once they reach blooming size.

And K - I will over-winter the mature bulbs in paper sacks and pot up a couple in January for winter color.

There you go, all your problems solved!! Just remember when you pull them up they won't like it and many of the leaves will die but don't despair, they will survive if they are kept on the dry side. My pots in the picture are terra cotta not plastic so they dry out quite quickly which is good.
Eighteen grandchildren!! Hope you can interest a few in gardening!!
