I offer 2 possible solutions; one is nearly free and the other not too expensive.

1) plot out and photo graph the area where the seedlings are planted. I have a garden marker that is xylene free and is supposed to be fade resistant. I would send you one if you email me your address (again...sorry).

2) I had bought some copper tags that are on long wires. You could write on the tag with a sharp pen and thus the names would be pressed into the copper and can't fade. With the long wires you could loop them around the seedling and it couldn't get dislodged unless it was picked up and removed.

I'll gladly send you the pen (I bought a pack of 5 and can't think of someone who needs one more than you with your brutally hot and sunny days).

I have decided to follow an arduous way. I will force dormancy and in January pull out all bulbs, cut leaves and trim roots a little, Leave them in shade for 5 days and plant each in 7inch pot after a Fungicide & Insecticide bath. Sorting and grouping would be easy and safe with hopefully little mortality on re-planting.
