Parental influence on progeny

Hi everyone!

The most exciting times for hippeastrum-lovers are at hand and it's just great.

New orders have either arrived or on their way and although I had decided not to do any crosses this season I fear my determination will fly out the window the moment my new - and, hopefully, old - lovelies open their first flowers and reveal their beauty.

My first crosses last season were made by intuition. I did try to visualize what the offspring would look like... well, future will tell if I succeeded or failed...

What interests me is this: does one or the other parent have a stronger influence on future progeny's looks? For example does the seed parent dominate the shape of the flower, or the color?

I have a feeling that I've read about this somewhere but I just can't remember where...

Any opinions and experiences not to mention facts would be highly appreciated. And photos would be great!!
