I havent kept up with Amaryllis genetics. I recall that red is dominant, and have seen this supported in my own crosses. I had some albino seedlings. Albino is recessive in many cases. Which parent is the seed parent will have some effect as mitochondria and other cytoplasmic things come only from the mother.

Jim...did your albino seedlings survive?? Someone (you?) had posted photos of albino seedlings....curious.

Yes, red. Red is good. I used 'Bogota' as a seed parent pollinated with 'Red Lion' and Hadeco's 'Dynamite'. There is a clear difference in growth already, the Red Lion cross is three times bigger than the ones with Dynamite.

'Jewel' was the best seed parent. I pollinated it with 'Lydia' (who's identity I doubt; my L. doesn't resemble the photos on the net... but it's a lovely hippie, color is close to coral and the flowers are fairly small). This cross produced fine seeds and lots of them and they germinated well and evenly. I have tens of seedlings growing and they all look the same, with perfect little round bulbs.
'Lydia' as the seed parent didn't succeed that well. Very few seeds and very few seedlings.

This season opens new tempting possibilities with 'Exotic Star', 'Exotica' and 'Lemon Star' for example.
