Surprise bloom

Was poking around in the front yard and found a pot with blooming H. Papilio! Unexpected surprise. One bloom had been nibbled by snails, but other is unscathed and pollen sacs are just opening. OOOOOO....fresh Pap pollen for all those new blooms!! TOOOO EXCITING!!

PS...short scapes seem to be the "norm" with this bunch!

Oh wow! Congratulations! It's always fun to play with pollen, as strange as that sounds. hehehe.

Hi Kristi,

How beautiful and wonderfully early too. It's kinda cool that they flower on short scapes and I think it would be nice to breed them with another "smaller" growing hipp. Who knows, you might be a pioneer to open a new door to a whole line of breeding. As for those dang snails, I feel for you. In Cambridge, MA, I not only have to deal with these little striped snails (never seen them before, I think aliens put them there just to piss me off..lol) but also the slugs that are as long as a finger and a half and boy can those suckers eat.
