I have Forest Fire in bloom and I am madly in love with it!
I tried taking a photo and the colors came out all wrong so tomorrow I will try an outdoor shot in daylight to share with you. But here is the description...A Huge flower, atleast 8" across, maybe more. A beautiful shade of orange that is somehow both feminine and bold...a bit of pink lying under the orange. A fairly well defined dark red flame in the middle of each petal, and those scrumptious orangy pink anthers!
ANita is also in bloom but overshadowed by Forest Fire. Anita is small and dainty, 5-6" across, and no flame. She is very pretty in her own right but definitly overshadowed by her firey sister! Pics tomorrow. |

I can't wait! I'm going to refrain from looking at MaGuire's website... your description of Forest Fire is so vivid that I want to see if what I'm picturing is close to the way you tell it... I think it is... we'll see! Great descriptions... and now, I'm on pins and needles! :-)

We are dodging thunderstorms and hail today and the sky is turning dark...maybe later. I don't want any hail bruising my babies!

Anxiously awaiting pictures here too! Alana
Here they are! Forest Fire and Anita

Forest Fire on Left, Anita on right. The stripes in Forest FIre should be twice as dark as they show, darn it! It is like a burgundy feather laid over the center of each petal.

Wow - I continue to be impressed with all the Maguires bulbs. They really did a nice job with colors and textures. Those two are both just amazing. Alana

I like Forest Fire a lot! Beautiful feathering! Anita is lovely, too! Reds are hard colors to accurately capture in photographs, but I think you did a good job with the first picture... I can see the feathering, and I can imagine it to be darker than in the picture. I have a really hard time trying to accurately photograph some of our darker red roses... the velvety deep red never comes through in the pictures. Hot Cocoa is about the only one that I can get right, and even that one looks different from photo to photo. Good job, Lizalily! I think Forest Fire is one I'll keep on my wish list! Thanks for sharing!

Hmm, Jodi, it occurred to me just now looking at Forest Fire back lit, that a lot of the stripe has to do with light opacity, so the camera cancels that out when it flashes on it. And yes, I have trouble photographing my dark red roses too! Today I should get to see the face on Kaitlin, another Maguire. It has a beautiful tall stem and is so graceful in bud...definitely going to get 4 flowers on this one! THey are a lovely blending of white, pink and green. I am discovering in the Maguires Amaryllis a gracefulness that I think has been bred out of a lot of our commercially available ones here. I think they have bred more for just the flower, and for sturdier stems without taking the whole plant into consideration. THese must be so lovely growing outside and dancing in the wind!
