Hippeastrum bug???

| These are little wjite bugs crawling from in and out of the rings of the bulb, the leafs too! They are not mealy, do you think theire dangerous! |

| Hard to say...but...you can bet they are eating something. I definitely would not take a chance. I just sprayed all my hipps this afternoon with a contact insectiside (Spectracide Malathion) and I plan to follow-up with a systemic at a later date. There are other recent threads that discuss critters. Good luck. MikeP |

| I'm not sure what type of insect you have, but any insect is bad news... I would isolate the plant, and give it a good spray with an insecticide made for ornamentals or houseplants. Schultz makes a 3 in 1 spray that take care of insect, fungi, and mites... it's usually available where ever garden products are sold. I would spray it, and then follow up in a week or so, as directed by the type of insecticide you get. This will kill anything that hatches after the first treatment. A granular systemic that you water into the soil would be a good preventative... but I'd definitely spray as soon as possible. |
