Some seedlings will produce almost NO offsets. I was surprised to observe this when I grew Hippeastrum aulicum from seed from Brasil. I had expected offsets, bcz my H.aulicum v.robustum (my one old clone) produces many offsets.
HOWEVER! I have never found - in any Hippeastrum that I raised from seed, that the production of some if not even multiple offsets, and even in an early stage in other words when the seedling bulb is still little - that this would put that particular bulb in a disadvantage as compared to their other siblings. NEVER. It is generally that the most vigorous seedlings of a set of siblings will produce offsets in abundance sometimes in a bothering manner so that the sheer mass of extra-leaves could actually suppress the smaller bulbs of neighbouring weaker siblings. For this reason I consequently cut the leaves of these "premature Daughter" bulbs down, down and down again. BEFORE one Daughter bulb might reach a size that it could even "CLAIM" that it be actually another Sibling(!) This scenario happens mainly with my Cybister Hybrid seedlings, where I observe extreme differences in vigor. It is not in my best (breeder's) interest, to let any "strong" sibling suppress a "weaker" since all-too-often, the "strong" one will produce a flower which is "ordinary" at best, whereas among the bigger number of "weaklings" there might be one, just ONE, with most prettiest bloom.

So you recommend snipping the leaves of the bulblet rather than removing it entirely?

Is there something I can do to make the bulb put its energy towards a flower rather than making bulblets?

I ' ve got amaryllis who has many offsets. I never separated the offset from the mother bulb. so the offset grow big like her mother. To flowering, I gave them Fertilizer high phosphate. it's work well with me.
